MY AEROSPACE ENGINEERING JOURNEY

INTRODUCTION:
Greetings, welcome to my blog! My name is Shahzaib Waseemand I am proud to claim that I am one of the few thousands of people on this planet who fancy Aerospace Engineering, and give the discipline the recognition it rightfully deserves.

BOOKS:
Below listed are the books I have stumbled upon, while on a hunt for knowledge a good aerospace engineer requires.

  • Ubiquity: Why Catastrophes Happen
  • Blazing the Trail: The Early History of Spacecraft and Rocketry (Library of Flight)
  • Into the Black: The Extraordinary Untold Story of the First Flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia and the Astronauts Who Flew Her
  • Wind and Beyond
  • The New Science of Strong Materials: Or Why You Don’t Fall Through the Floor (Penguin Science)
  • The Jet Engine

PODCASTS:
This is an exciting time to be an aerospace engineer! Scientific breakthroughs in battery technology, machine learning, 3-D printing, and materials science are changing the way we design aircraft and rockets. These technologies have ushered in a new era in aerospace engineering, which will see transformations in the way we travel locally and to space. A few podcasts below got my brain gears turning:

  • Virtual Reality in Aerospace with Mbryonic Founder Tom Szirtes
  • Samson Sky is Building the First Truly Useful Flying Car
  • Prof. Paul Weaver on Shape, Stiffness and Smart Aerospace Structures

RELATED PROJECTS:
Till date, below is the list of projects I got my hands dirty on!

  • Ornithopter: The project’s philosophy was to study characteristics and the concept behind the ability of birds to soar the skies. Birds and pterodactyl (flying dinosaurs) alike, have a mutual miraculous aspect; their flapping wings and tail being so simple and yet effective means of achieving flight. The first design in this category was introduced by Leonardo da Vinci. The project’s aim was to apply his idea on a small-scale aircraft. Below is my attempt at mimicking the idea:

AERODYNAMICS DEGREE COURSES:

  • Applied aerodynamics:

Studied at PAF-KIET, doing avionics engineering, the course titled Applied Aerodynamics, with reference book, “Introduction to flight” was studied. To emphasize, when I say studied, I mean literally studied, from the first chapter to the last! Key concepts such as altitude pressure, density, temperature, along with mach number, airfoil shapes, center of gravity and center of aerodynamic force, and much more amazing concepts were obtained through the help of a just as amazing teacher: Syed Najeeb Haider Jaffri, a remarkable and renowned aeronautical engineer himself.
